Hi! My name is Flat Stanley.
I bet you are wondering how I became flat. Well you are not going to believe it, but
here is what happened. Last summer my
family and I went on vacation to a magical place in Florida. My older brother and I were very excited. We rode all the rides and attended all the
shows. As we were walking back to our
room one evening, we walked by a group of children sitting on the ground
listening to a beautiful princess reading from a gigantic book that was taller
than my father. My parents told me that
I could stay as long as I met them back in the room. So I sat criss-cross applesauce just like I
was taught in kindergarten to listen to this beautiful princess read the
story. Then she asked for a volunteer to
help her turn the pages of this giant book, of course I raised my hand. I
couldn’t believe it when she pointed at me to be her special helper. I was doing a really good job when out of
nowhere came a giant gust of wind. I
stepped inside the book to shield myself from the wind. The wind was so strong that it shut the book
with me inside it. Now I love to read
and I can really get into a story, but this was ridiculous. I couldn’t move or talk. I could hear people trying to pry the book
open. It took the beautiful princess, a
guy dressed like a prince, a girl dressed like a mermaid, and another guy
dressed like a cowboy to finally open the book.
By then I slid right out and I was as flat as a bookmark.
After my parents got over the initial shock, I was able to
look on the bright side of things. Being
flat wasn’t going to be so bad after all.
When we were getting ready to take the long ride back home, I was able
to talk my parents into letting me take a different route. Instead of having to listen to me and my
brother fighting in the back seat, I talked them into placing me in an envelope
and mailing me home, so they dropped me off at the post office in Florida. Everything was going as planned until the
tractor trailer that was carrying the bags full of mail across the states broke
down in Alabama. What happened next
changed my life forever.
As the bags were being transferred to another truck, a big
gust of wind came and the bag I was in fell to the ground and out fell the
envelope I was in. The wind carried me
across the road where a really nice lady found me a day later. At first she was scared because I was talking
to her from inside the envelope asking her to please let me out. Once she finally did, I told her my story and
we became instant friends. She asked me
if I would like to visit her home and she would take me around her city to
visit different places I might find interesting. She said that after my visit she would place
me back in an envelope and mail me home.
I knew it would make my brother jealous, so of course I stayed, and that
is how my adventures began.
I decided to take a picture of myself at the different
places and write about them in this blog, so that my family and friends could
keep up with my adventures. I hope you
too will join me as I go out and about in Alabama. Who knows where I will end up next. Maybe I can visit you one day.
Until then,
Flat Stanley
